Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be?
Children are accepted bewteen the ages of 6 and 16.

Do we have recitals?
Recitals are not the tradition of Irish dancing, we do competitions or "feiseanna". More advanced dancers perform at many community events, conventions, theme parks and St. Patrick's celebrations.

Do I have to compete?
It is not essential but pupils are encouraged to attend feiseanna. The focus for beginners at these events is not on competitive success. Feiseanna expose dancers to skilled dancers from all over the state of Florida and beyond. They provide wonderful motivation for improvement and dancers also make a lot of new friends!

What do I wear?
Wear T-shirts and shorts. Dancers can wear sneakers for the first month and then purchase used Irish dance shoes at the studio or new ones by mail.

Is Irish dancing expensive?
The cost of classes is similar to any form of dance and the beginners costume is inexpensive and reusable. If dancers continue on to a more advanced level, costuming and travel can become moderately expensive.

Do we learn “Irish tap”?
There are two types of Irish step dancing, soft shoe and hard shoe (taps). Pupils learn soft shoe first, then progress to hard shoe.

Is this a certified school?
Yes, Myra is a fully qualified T.C.R.G. (teachers qualification) and is a member of An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, Dublin, Ireland and the Irish Dancing Teachers Association of North America.
